What is ANSD
Affected individuals usually present with abnormal auditory brainstem responses (ABRs), but normal otoacoustic emissions (OAEs).
Common symptoms
- Speech discrimination difficulties, especially in noisy conditions
- Pure tone threshold varies from normal to profound
Definition: A range of hearing dysfunctions characterized by compromised signal processing along the auditory nerve or by deficient transmission of this signal to the auditory nerve by the presynaptic inner hair cells (De Siati et al. 2020)
FM System
How?
- FM directly transmits speech signals from a speaker to receivers worn by the individual, enhancing the clarity of the speech signal, and aiding in better comprehension
- Assist in education setting
-
Benefits
- Improved speech understanding/clarity
- Reduced background noise
- Enhanced communication in classroom
- Residual speech recognition
