        Deja vu - a type of illusion of autobiographical memory
        
        ⅔ of people experience it with equal frequency among genders
        
        Decreases with age, but increases with education, SES and travel
        
        Lasts less than 30 secs
        
        Mechanisms -
        -> Split perception - a brief glance before conscious seeing
        -> Implicit memory - forgotten experience but think it is familiar
        -> Gestalt familiarity - similar to a previous experience
      - Conway (2009) - episodic memory provides a record of short term goals and the degree to which they have been met - certain episodic memories embedded in broader conceptual alongside semantic memories become autobiographical
        False memory - imagination inflation; recall of false events due to extensive imagining of them - demand characteristics can have an impact
        
        Within families, especially twins and close siblings, memories which have fuzzy ownership can often gain false characteristics, such as each individual believing they are the protagonist of the memory (Sheen et al, 2001)
      - Deja vecu - feeling one has lived through a moment before
        Jamais vu - when something familiar feels unfamiliar
        Presque vu - feeling we are about to experience a moment of insight
