Emerging adulthood- a new conception of development for the period from the late teens through the twenties. The three domains of the emerging adult are: Biosocial-refers to the physical and biological changes that occur during this life stage such as prime of life, physical changes, sexual-reproductive health, psychological well-being and health habits. e-considers many perspectives, combining emotions and logic, the personal and the political. There are three approaches to study adult cognition: stage approach, psychometric approach, and information-processing approach. Psychosocial-refers to the psychological and social changes that occur during this life stage such as: intimate relationships, isolation, identity versus role confusion, identity explorations, instability, self-focus, feeling in between, broad possibilities, gaining adult status.
In late adulthood, women between the ages of 42 and 58 experience menopause. Men experience andropause which is a term coined to signify a drop in testosterone levels in older men. This typically results in reduced sexual desire, erections, and muscle mass also called male menopause.
Puberty: Puberty is the time between the first onrush of hormones and full adult physical development. Puberty usually lasts three to five years. Many more years are required to achieve psychosocial maturity.
Puberty Changes: Usually, pubertal hormones begin to accelerate sometime between ages 89 and 14, and visible signs of puberty appear between 9 and 15. Genes, sex, body fat, chemical exposure, and stress levels are predictions of possible puberty.
