Perceived Susceptibility
How likely does the smoker feel that they are at risk from tobacco
An older smoker would be more likely to quit because they feel at higher risk to developing a condition like lung cancer
A younger smoker may not feel at risk for a dangerous health condition because they are healthy
Perceived Severity
What the smoker things the consequences will be if continued smoking
If a smoker feels that not much harm can come from smoking, they are less likely to quit
If a smoker feels that they will develop dangerous conditions from smoking, they are more likelt to quit
Perceived Benefits
What a smoker thinks they will get from quitting tobacco
Someone who believes they will truly be healthier from quitting smoking is more likely to do so
Someone who believes that nothing will change is less likely to quit smoking
