Rosario - Sustainable Future
Rosario Habitat Programme
Gated Communities
Designed to provide residents with a feeling of safety away from activities that would harm them. Gated communities have security guards and large fences to promote this.
Impact of this is that there are areas in the city that are safe and protected (e.g. for young families). This helps with the city's development because it creates healthy areas within the crime and slums of the city.
New urban planning
New roads and basic infrastructure including sewerage, storm drains and community facilities.
Impact is that there is a higher quality of life, and a quicker development. This would also decrease the death rate and lead to a healthier population.
Education programme for young people
This educates young people on the negative consequences and effects of risky behaviour that they may be going on with.
This would educate the oncoming generation so that they can educate more people and as they grow older, the risky activities would fade out until there is a lot less of it.
Green City Scheme
Community Gardens
This reduces the need to transport crops into the city, which in turn reduces carbon dioxide emissions and creates a healthier, more sustainable future of the city. This also provides the women with more jobs, creating an alternative source of income in most families.
Urban forestry
Trees being planted among all new housing developments. This leads to reduction in the impacts of climate change in the city, as well as reducing the ambient temperature in the area.
Flood risk zones planted with food crops
This improves the diet of low-income families and also provides them with an alternative source of income. This improves their quality of life and leads the way for other families to do the same.
Sustainable Tourism
Colleges and courses for overseas students
This leads to a more educated population, as many of the students stay in the city and also create a more highly skilled population which leads to more development in the city, especially in the tertiary and quaternary sectors.
Physical attractions e.g. waterfronts
This attracts more tourists to the nicer areas of Rosario and leads to a more sustainable tourism because people come to see nature and have more appreciation for it, instead of other activities that are harmful to the environment.
