Bulimia
Diagnostic Criteria: Binge-eating, inappropriate compensatory behaviors. Prevent weight gain (self-induced vomiting, Excessive exercise). Can be normal weight. or overweight.. Less distressed, more motivated to change.
Etiology: Genetics, psychological factors.
Top Comorbidities: Mood disorders, anxiety.
Denal erosion, Caries, gastroesophageal reflux, dehydration, hear arrhythmias, death.
Treatment: Rehabilitation, CBT, Interpersonal Therapy. CBT preferred and more effective because IPT is longer
Anorexia
Diagnostic Criteria: Low body weight, fear of weight gain, distorted body image. Lower body weight than normal.
Etiology: Genetics, cultural factors.
Top Comorbidities: Anxiety disorders, depression.
Treatment: Family Based treatment (FBT), Antipsychotic (Olanzapine) for gain weight, SSRI (Fluoxetine) improving weight maintenance.
Pica
Diagnostic Criteria: Eating non-food substances (Paper, Pint, Coffee grounds) for at least 1 month.. At any age.
Etiology: Genetic predisposition, sensory-seeking behaviors.
Top Comorbidities: Intellectual disabilities, other eating disorders.
Binge Eating
Diagnostic Criteria: Binge-eating, lack of compensatory behaviors. Excessive eating.
Etiology: Genetics, psychological factors.
Top Comorbidities: Obesity, mood disorders.
Elimination Disorder
Repeated voiding of urine into the bed or clothing (2 or more times a week) for 3 consecutive months.
Treatment: nocturnal enuresis is the moisture alarm (also known as the bell-and-pad), which causes a bell to ring when a child begins to urinate while sleeping. Antidiuretic hormone desmopressin.
