MRI
-
1969 - Dr Damadian theorizes that magnetic resonance can tell the difference between cancerous cells and noncancerous cells. He successfully proves that with rats. He finds a difference in relaxation times between both cells.
-
Damadian believed that it was possible to differentiate between cancer cells and normal cells. He wanted to prove this so that he could help the society, attempting to save as many people as possible.
1952 - Gunnar Lindstrom and Erik Odelbladalso, two Swedish researchers investigate nuclear magnetic resonance and hypothesize that different tissues absorb and organise water molecules differently.
1972 - 1980 - Paul C. Lauterbur starts working on his own MRI procedures. By stacking 2D images using magnetic field gradients to create 3D images. He develops a new technique called zeugmatography which combines radiofrequency field gradients and a magnetic field.
1978 - Peter Mansfeild, a physicist works on reducing the time taken to complete an MR scan, taking an image of a finger in 15-23 minutes.
Today MRI scans are more advanced than ever, the images more clearer and taking lesser and lesser time. They can also be easily accessed and are used to detect anything that may not be healthy in the interior of your body. MRI machines are especially useful when detecting cancerous cells. This machine makes doing so very easy in contrast to surgery. Moreover, MRI opens a pathway to a career, boosting the economy and creating jobs.
