Primary microplastics (MPs) can absorb pollutants such as heavy metals, antibiotics, and pesticides in water because of their small size, large surface area, and hydrophobic nature. This absorption can alter pollutant distribution in water bodies. Aquatic organisms can ingest these MPs, leading to accumulation and potential toxin transfer through the food chain, due to both the MPs' polymeric composition and the pollutants they carry
