Torr Quarry, Somerset
where - it is in the Mendip Hills, and is one of the eight limestone quarries there.
what is being extracted - limestone. this began in the 1940's and currently occupies a 2.5mk^2 mile site. it previously produced 8 million tonnes per annum, but now 5 million. 3/4 of its output is transported by rail, mostly to the south-east.
