Atom, Neutrons: The neutral subatomic particle of an atom, Rachel…
Atom
electron cloud: cloud: the area around the nucleus of an atom where electrons are found
Electrons:
A subatomic particle of an atom that has a negative charge
Negative charge: When an atom has more electrons than protons
S-orbital: The sphere shape orbital that holds no more than 2 electrons
P-orbital: The oval shaped orbital that can hold 6 electrons
D-orbital: Tear drop shaped orbital that can hold no more than 10 electrons
F-orbital: F orbitals don’t have one shape that make them up, they can hold no more than 14 electrons
Ion: When the same element has a different number of electrons
Cations: An ion with a positive charge
Antions: an ion with a negative charge
Nucleus: the center of the atom
Empty space: the space that an atom has where there is absolutely nothing but empty space
Atomic mass: The average mass of all the isotopes of an element
Neutrons: The neutral subatomic particle of an atom
Mass number: The total number of protons and neutrons in a nucleus
Protons:subatomic particle of an atom that has a positive charge
Positive charge: When an atom has more proton than electrons
Neutral: when Protons and electrons are equal
Atomic Number: the number of protons in an element
Isotopes: When the same element has a different number of neutrons
