SCHEMA THEORY
= a concept or framework, built up from experience, about an object, event, person or group
schemas simplify reality, sets up expectations about what is probable, and influences the way we interpret, organize, communicate, and remember information
scripts are schema about events in time, rather than schema for objects - we have scripts for how to go to dinner, how we celebrate christmas; when events don't follow our script, we can become frustrated, disappointed or confused
