OTIC DRUGS
MECHANISM OF ACTION
a) this drug is effective against a wide range of bacteria such as staphylococcus, streptococcus and pseudomonas. it can be used to treat fungal infections when combined with an antifungal agent.
b) it an antibiotic that works by inhibiting the action of an enzyme called DNA gyrase. this enzyme is essential for the bacteria to replicate their DNA and therefore for them to reproduce.
INDICATIONS
b) treatment used to treat outer ear infections in adults and children, and in children during ear tube placement surgery to prevent infection or ear drainage.
a) treats bacterial infections of middle ear known as otitis media, treat outer ear infection or otitis externa. some of the times it is used to swimmer's ears.
STORAGE CONDITION
b) tablets stored at room temp between 20-25 degrees Celsius. IVI solution should be stored in refrigirator between 36-46 degrees celsius.
a) stored at temp below 20 degrees celsius, kept in dry place and away from direct sunlight, the bottle should be kept tightly closed.
ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION
b) available as an oral tablet and IVI solution. oral is taken twice daily with/without food, IVI given onece/twice daily.

b) Ciprofloxacin
SIDE EFFECTS
b) Nausea, diarrhea, headache, dizziness and insomnia. they usually mild and go away their own. some may have serious effects like rash and abdominal pain.
a) the variety side effects of Gentamicin can be nausea and vomit, difficulty in breathing, muscle weakness, seizures, dark urine, pale stool, fever, itching, rash, skin irritation, abdominal pain, hearing loss, etc
CONTRAINDICATION
b) not used to patients who are allergic to Fluoroquinolone antibiotics, not used to patients with history of tendon problems like tendonitis, or tendon rupture, related to previous use of Fluroquinolone antibiotics.
a) it should not be used to patients who are allergic to aminoglycoside antibiotics. should not be used to patients with known history of a kidney disease, should be used with caution to patients with severe burns because it can cause deafness.
