Causes-life in the occupied territories
For Palestinians, living in the occupied territories of Gaza and the West bank was very harsh
A. It was really crowded
B. Life was very basic
C. The occupied territories were very unhyegenic
Palestinians had to work in Israel for money, and it was usually did unskilled jobs that were way lower than their qualifications
The Palestinians also had to pay Israeil taxes, even if they didn't have any right in the Israeli government
Palestinians that were just SUSPECTS of the PLO had to endure beatings, public humiliations, detentions and random arrests
Israelis would exile Palestinians out of Israel, in order to make sure there was available space for incoming Jewish settlers

In December 1987, an Israeli shopkeeper was stabbed to death in Gaza
2.The next day, an IDF truck crashed into vans that carried Palestinians home from work in Israel, killing 4
A. Palestinians spread rumours that the crash was deliberate, in order for revenge
After the crash, there was rioting at funerals, and Israeli guard posts were stoned and killed
Another Palestinian was killed after all of this, and hundreds took to the streets to protest, and within 2 weeks, the riots spread from Gaza to the West Bank

Israel's response to the first Intifada was cruel: The prime minister of Israel, Shamir, would introduce the Iron Fist policy
A. Reservists (members of the Israeli military) were called to increase security
B. Schools were closed down, curfews were set for the Palestinians and censorship for the Palestinians was put in place
C. Thousands of Palestinians were imprisoned, and suspected rioters were detained, and thir houses blown up/bulldozed
D. Children that threw stones could have their bones/fingers broken by and Israeli resident
E. Crowds of riots were broken up using tear gas/rubber bullets/live ammunition
