the theme of in inspector calls of responsibly
Mr Briling
how does he treat the inspecor
he treats the inspector as he is lying and lies to the inspector and tries to impose his power onto the inspector saying he knows the cheif thinking the inspector will back off
what are his veiws on society
how does he treat eva smith
eva smith he treats awfully by firing he as she was the ringleader of a group of workers that asked for higher pay as he paid the woman bare minimum they could barely get by
captylist business owner who thinks about nothing but himself and business
puts profit before the welfare of his family (his daughter) and he defends his daughters boyfriend over his own daughter even though he is totally wrong but does this as there marriage is seen as a business transaction with the crofts
eric
he latch himself onto eva takes advantage of her at the palace bar and uses her as a prostitute and believes hes doing the right thing and helping her
this shows is capitalist views and how he lacks responsibility and shows how broken the birling family is
Mrs Birling
Mr Berlings wife is presented throughout the play as a narrow minded patronising character by priestly showing her views and responses of eva's suicide
catalyst old fashioned veiws
how does she react to the inspector?she treats the inspector as inferior and not as important as her
why has preiestly done this
priestley may of shows the idea of responsibility of capitalist views to poorer society since the titanic sunk which was a tragic event which saw the ignorant capitalist views being proven wrong as it was seen as the "unsinkable ship
He says that the Titanic is “unsinkable, absolutely unsinkable”, that war is “impossible” and “nonsense”
whilst mr birling is having this captylist rant the inspector calls and his speech is interrupted by the inspector which contrasts his capitalist views
sheila is Erics fiance Mr Birling's daughter that takes responsibility later on in the play for getting daisy renton fired from from millwards where eva finally found a god job and her life was back on track then i fired and she resorts to working as a prostitute as she cannot find jobs
she takes responsibility which shows the younger generations can change however the older generations have old fashioned views which shows the generation gap
priestly may have done this theme of responsibility to show the younger generations are more susceptible to change to the older generations
