start and mesh networks
bus topology
devices connected to a central backbone cable
if the backbone brakes then all the devices loose connection
ring topology
devices connected by a ring table
it has the same potential issue as the bus network with a main cable failure
a second ring can be introduced to prevent this issue but that requires an extra cable
star network
most popular wired typed of network
central switch
all devices connect to the central switch
the switch is intelligent and makes sure traffic only goes where its intended
star network topology
most popular wire type network
all devices connect to the central switch
if a single cable breaks only that computer effected
if the switch breaks then all the other computers loose connection
full mesh network topology
every device is connected to every other device
advantages is if you get a break in any of the connections you can still route your traffic via another route
disadvantage is that there is a lot more cabling and switch hardware required witch will add to the cost for large networks
partial mesh network topology
multiple routes exits between different devices
however every device is not connected to every other single device
a compromise solution which lowers the amount of hardware needed compared to a full mesh network
