MORPHOLOGY

Oocyst

Development in soil , it becomes sporulated oocyst which contains sporozoites in sporoblast.
It has one spherical structure, it is called sporoblast.

LIFE CYCLE
ENTERIC CYCLE
After fertilization, the zygote formation, it is excreted in feceus.
In soil , the unsporulated oocyst to sporulated oocyst contains 8 sporozoites.
Bradyzoit infects intestinal region and become tachyzoites, it multiple in enormous number in intestine it undergoes sexual cycle after converted and formation of male and female gametes.

EXOCENTRIC CYCLE

Infected by sporulated oocyst contaminated the food or unproperly cooked meats which contains Bradyzoit.

PATHOGENESIS
Lead to still birth, chorientinitis , Hydrocephalus, Microcephaly.
Abnormality of brain development, psychomotor disturbances, blindness, enlarged spleen and liver, jaundice, poor motor coordination, rash.
In 2nd trimester, less severe complication, birth anomalies to common

LAB DIAGNOSIS
Sabin - Feldman dye test ( confirmatory test) , Latex agglutination test.

Serodiagnosis - ELISA , IFAT
-
Microscopy - blood, sputum, bone marrow aspirates, Giemsa staining
Others - Animal inoculation, skin test of frenkel
TREATMENT
Other alternative drugs - spiramycin , clindamycin , trimethoprim- sulphmethoxazole.

Combination of pyramethamine , sulphadiazine or Trisulfapyramidines.
