Adamstown is a new town development that was begun in February 2005 and is located 16 km west of Dublin city centre.
Adamstown is a planned town and it provides homes, services and employment for thousands of people.
The Development of Adamstown>
Adamstown was planned. It was created to specifically house up to 25,000 people. The town consists of apartments, town housing and duplexes.
It has a secondary school and two primary schools.
The Adamstown Industrial Estate was built to provide employment for the town.
Adamstown is connected to Dublin City by the M4 and M50 roads, by bus routes
and by a train station.
<How long did Adamstown take to construct?
Development of the town slowed down considerably because of the economic recession
that began in 2008 and lasted for several years:
During the recession, house prices decreased and building slowed down dramatically.
Many new houses and apartments remained empty.
Facilities such as a swimming pool, a library, a cinema and a healthcare centre were all
planned for Adamstown.
By 2015, however, only two new shops and a hairdressing salon had been completed.

Work restarted on the further development of Adamstown in 2017.
There is new housing being constructed.
Adamstown has won several national awards for its sustainability.
