KNOWLEDGE - APST 1 & 2
Take the time to get to know the students for example if they're diagnosed with ASD, if their parents have just split up, if their family is struggling financially. Make informed decisions from this knowledge to ensure their learning is progressing. (1.1)

Make sure I am knowledgeable on the content I am teaching. If questions are asked, that I am unsure of I will always endeavor to find the answer out for the student. (2.1)

Ensure I am informed and understand different student's cultural beliefs and family values. If unsure take the time to effectively communicate with families and ensure I am respecting their ideologies. Interpret and adapt this knowledge in my teaching. 1.2, 1.3, 1.4

Ensure I regularly engage in P.D's that are relevant to my class I am teaching increasing my bank of strategies to work with students with a range of disabilities/learning needs. (1.5, 1.6)

Never ignore basic needs, if a student is hungry, hot/cold etc., that becomes priority. A student cannot learn effectively if these needs have not been met. (1.1)

Basic needs, need to be met to allow growth.

Aim to adapt and change the content I am teaching to the interests of the students in my class. What works with one class might be a disaster in another, be prepared for this. (2.2)

Critical reflection is imperative to effective teaching; things will not always go to plan. But having a variety of strategies that will increase likelihood of finding the 'right fit' for different students (2.4, 2.5, 2.6)

Communicate using various strategies to ensure all students including ATSI students are engaged e.g., deconstruct/construct and storytelling (3.5)

Ensure there is structure for the students with effective routines set up, to encourage wanted behaviors.

Use predominantly positive behavior framework, to ensure child is supported through their learning, encouraging good values and morals (4.3)

Effective use of EA to ensure all resources are being used to help support positive student engagement (4.1)

Always endeavor to use constructive feedback for the student, that is tailor made for them and will effectively engage and motivate them. (5.2)

Celebrate student success, every student should walk away from school thinking they did at least 1 thing they were proud of. Make sure this is all recorded, to communicate with their families (5.5)

Understand that students excel in different types of assessments, ensure I have a variety of assessment strategies to accurately reflect the ability of the student (diagnostic, formative and summative) (5.1)

Understand that teaching is a team effort not individual, share resources and knowledge with colleagues and always ask for help when needed. (6.3, 6.2)

Always use good manners with students, consistently showing them respect. (6.4, 6.1)

Transparent communication with parents. You always have the child's best interests at heart, some conversations may be very difficult to have, but avoidance will not resolve. (7.3)

Keep up to date with new and upcoming strategy techniques and regularly attend P.D's that are relevant to the students I am teaching. (7.2, 7.4)
