Fezziwig was a good boss however he was too generous with his business over time, so Scrooge ended up taking his business from him.

Dickens wants to highlight the concept of time because he wants people attitudes to change quickly.
The time this was set the great depression happened which caused extreme poverty. Workhouses were introduced as poverty was rife, people would be put into workhouses and forced to do hard labour in order to sleep under shelter and get fed. Many of the jobs were dangerous. The workhouses were in terrible condition, many people who stayed there got sick.
Christian society - a christmas carol is set in christmas time which is an important event for christians at the time, it is a time for giving and gathering communities together.
Marley is seen after his 7th year of death, and on christmas eve, the ghosts also take scrooge to times where it was christmas time.
