Preparing For a Talk...
Prepare your discussion and visual aids ahead of time. (Use note cards/ powerpoints)
Prepare notes in large clearly legible print. Memorize the opening sentences. (Notes should not be a complete script).
Practice a lot
Make Presentation Slides Effective...
The audience will connect better with simple informative slides. (Pictures/ graphs/ minimal text)
Pay attention to the style of the slide. (The color/ design/ font). Needs to be visually appealing
Figures and tables should have a title but no legend
Do not clutter the figures and tables on the slides. (Visually appealing)
Presentation Time...
Use common, spoken English. (You want to connect with the audience, not confuse them)
Stick to the time limit and speak clearly and confidently
Keep eye contact and be conscious of body movement and gestures. (Have open body language and use gestures to be engaging)
Explain everything on the slides. (Don't keep the audience guessing)
Make the presentation flow well and signal the end
