Hydrocarbons
-
Homologus series are made up of different compounds that follow a general formula that describes how many atoms there are. They have similar properties.
Alkanes
-
Saturated = you can't add any more atoms to it, no double bonds
-
-
Homologous series
-
-
Gradual variation in physical properties, such as boiling points
-
Addition of bromine
-
The double bonds opens, and each of the carbons involved bond with a bromine atom
When orange bromine water is added to alkanes, no reaction with happen
If bromine water is added to alkenes, the bromine water decolourises, and becomes colourless

Properties
-
Viscosity
-
-
-
The stronger the intermolecular forces, the harder for it to flow
-
Boiling points
-
In larger molecules, the forces are much stronger
It takes alot more energy to break the forces between larger molecules which is why they have higher boiling points
