- - - - Eurasia= Russia conquers all of Europe (so the fears Soviet Union)
      - Eastasia= China, and the land south of China. Eastasia is established after the war with Oceania and Eurasia has been going on for a decade.
      - Oceania= England and America
    - - Alternatively, nukes are being used with frequency, but anti-air weapons, hardened battle lines makes dropping them on major cities extremely difficult and the poor state of scientific/computer development means that ICBM just aren't a thing (and to be fair, Orwell wouldn't know ICBMs were going to be invented).
    - - No one nation can defeat the other two. Frequently, two of them will gang up on the other, but someone will switch sides to prevent themselves going into an unequal one-on-one fight. This locks all three states into a perpetual war. Which the leaders love. Perpetual war means that there is always a bad guy and something to spend the populace's time, energy and lives on. Without time, energy and lives, any revolution begins at massive disadvantage.
      - Every soldier at war, every engineer helping to build a carrier and every scientist focusing on minor, practical weapon developments (This plastic stock doesn't warp in moisture rich environments) is a person who can't protest, a person who can't improve infrastructure and a scientist who isn't working on something which actually helps people.
        
        The busy, tired, anxious and exhausted are easier to manipulate and control.
    - - They believe their own doublethink. No inner party member gets to think of themselves as the mastermind or just a follower. They are all loyal followers while also self-critical and survival-orientated. They are Party paragons and radicals depending on need.
    - - The motive. Why do this? what possible philosophy is behind this? Since the Party isn't a literal dictatorship (no one ruler) and society has halted it technological progress, who benefits from this? From what we see of O'Brien's home, while he has access to things like wine and some privacy, it isn't like his life is better than rich people's life in the 1940s.

      - What does the party want to do language?
      - What does Winston think will happen to Syme? Why?
      - How does everyone react when there is an announcement of an "increase" of chocolate rations to 20 grams?
      - How would you write "absolutely terrible" in Newspeak?

    - - Not only is the sash a symbol of temptation, but it is also an obvious trap for the people in the party. It was worn to discourage sex, but it's colour and the way women wear it make them stand out more to the men in the party. Why do this?
    - - Could it represent the human spirit. Winston thinks it looks big and beautiful and important, but once the thought police smash it Winston thinks it looks weak, meaningless and fragile.
    - - effectively government mandated virtue signaling
    - - What exactly does BB symbolise? We know it isn't a person as Orwell makes references to many different totalitarian ideologues so BB doesn't represent just one historical figure. If BB doesn't represent Hitler or Stalin or any individual historical figure, what could BB represent?
