Drift along ocean currents in large swarms
About 100 species recorded
Usually range from few mm to 1.5m in size
All are marine forms

Usually shows radial symmetry
Mesoglea is thick
At the aboral end there is a sense organ
Surface of the body has 8rows -ctene]-[comb]
Usually 2 tentacles present
The surface of the tentacles is covered by a unique type of cells
They are functionally similar to nematocysts
Body wall
Tissue arrangement similar to Cnidaria
Outer epidermal layer and inner gastrodermal layer
Thick mesoglea fills the space between the epidermis
