The Mandate
- The League of Nations would give Britain a mandate over Palestine in 1923
- Britain had to do 3 things in Palestine before the Mandate would finish:

- The Palestinians were severely angered by this Mandate, because they were promised independence
- The Jews were extremely happy to have a homeland, and it was a true zionist dream to them
Statistics:
A. By 1922, there were 84,000 Jews living in Palestiine
B. By 1932, there were 175,000 Jews in Palestine
C. By 1935, there were about 310,000 Jews in Palestine
D. By 1936, There were about 480,000 Jews in Palestine, which was a QUARTER of Palestines population
The exponential rise in Jewish population in C and D was a result of the Jews in the Germany Fleeing the Nazism

The Arab Strike, 1936
- In 1936, the Arabs in Palestine protested against the British, as they were inspired by their neighbours' attempts of gaining independence through protest
- They Demanded 3 things from the British:

- Until the demands were met, the Arabs refused to work, pay taxes and would boycott British trade. British tropps, oil pipes and railways were also attacked
- The consequences was terrible for the Palestinians:

The Peel Commision, 1936-1937
- Due to the recent events regarding the Arabs in Palestine, the Britsh government set up a commision to fix it
- This commision was made to investigate the causes of unrest and dispute betweeen the Arabs and Jews
- It was led by William Peel, and his investigation went on for 6 months
- He travelled Palestine, questioning Jewish and Arab communities
A. He came to the Conclusion that the mandate would never work, as Arab culture and Jewish culture had nothing in common
