Magnet Schools
Magnet schools are allowed selective acceptance and exist as a form of public school with special curriculum such as ag, STEM, or fine arts. These schools attract students from all districts.
Charter Schools
Though charter schools are publically funded, they run independently compared to public schools. These schools must show success to stay funded. Students enter charter schools through a lottery system.
Public schools follow compulsory law with the help of IDEA. Local school districts boundaries dictate who attends which school.
Voucher Schools
Voucher schools are not yet legal in the state of Missouri, but are used in 16 states. The amounts of money issued by tax funds follow the students to either public, private, charter, or magnet schools.
Private schools may follow the MLS, but are not required to do so. They have the freedom to determine and practice their philosophies.
Homeschool does not rely on public support, but rather on usually one parent acting in the role of educator.
