Goneril and Regan: In the end of Act 2 Scene 4, through the conflicts between King Lear, Regan, and Goneril, King Lear attempts to combat Regans concerns of the 100 soldiers with the justification of “I gave you all- [my Kingdom]”, Regan immediately replies that “in good time you have it”. Seeing as Goneril and Regan are quite ambitious (obviously shown in their later actions), having waited so long for their succession to the position of the ruling monarch (or at least their husbands to be), the trials of patience in holding their ambition may be attributed to why they were so eager to collude between each other and with Edmund to rise in the socio-economic ladder.
