The Brain
The brain coordinates all of body's function.
It's comprised of four main regions:
The Cerebrum
The cerebellum
The brainstem
The diencephalon
It's responsible for coordinationg muscle movements, particularly those that help maintain the body;s balance and posture.
Control higher functions such as learning, reasoning and speech, plus senses like sight and hearing.
All parts together of the brainstem control vital bodily functions, such as cardiac activity, respiration, digesting and sleep.
These structures help govern sensations wight regulation, energy and instictual behaviors, such as eating, drinking an having sex.
It consists of nerves and fibers that transmit information through neurons.
They are nerve cells and nerve fibers. Carries signals to other parts of the brain and spinal cord.
It is a collection of structures that includes:
the pons, a mass of nerve fibers that carry sensory information
The midbrain which is responsible for helping control visual and auditory movement.
The medulla oblongata which creates motor and sensory pathways between the midbrain, pons, and spinal cord.
The diencephalon is a grouping of several structures.
The thalamus, which processes and transmits information from all the senses, except smell.
The hypothalamus and pituitary gland, which work together to produce and regulate neurochemicals.
