Chalk Pastel Project Prep Steps
Select a subject on your digital device. Upload it to Google Classroom
The photo has to show lots of small details.
This could be a person (not you), animal, vehicle, object, landscape or building.
Take a deep breath! Welcome to the project!
Save the photo to your phone or laptop.
Use your photo app to grid the images to up to 15 panels (3 rows and 5 columns). It’s okay if it’s smaller or occupies a different aspect.
If Mr. Hamden tells you to, complete the Animal Jumbalaya worksheet.
Complete the Color Mixing Worksheet with Mr. Hamden. You will do this because sometimes the colors you are looking for will not be available. You will have to mix colors to get that unique color. Also, you will use this to practice textures.
Challenge yourself! Use pastels to draw & color difficult areas of your subject first.

Remember to tap your paper against the desk to remove excess dust. DO NOT blow on it or wipe it.
Draw a larger version on the Chalk Pastel 15-panel worksheet (3 rows and 5 columns). Get it approved.
Project Steps! Get your poster board.
Make a grid matching your Chalk Pastel 15-panel worksheet, but 20” x 12”. Each square should be 4” x 4”. Mr. Hamden will demo in class how to use the ruler to grid out your final poster.
Sketch your image on the poster board.
Follow the grid!
Begin applying your chalk pastels.
Remember to tap your paper against the desk to remove excess dust. DO NOT blow on it or wipe it.
Use the methods your learned for blending, mixing and layering chalk pastels.
Take photos regularly
upload your progress to Google Classroom
Complete an Artist Statement
