Global Population Growth Rate
Health
Agricultural Revolution
Approximately 350 years ago humans applied technology to farming so farmers could grow more food per area of land. Better nutrition led to increased life expectancy, so the global population increased.
-
Industrial Revolution
Because fewer people needed to be farmers, people began to move into cities for jobs in factories run by steam power created by burning coal. People in the city created many new technologies such as steam engines, medicine, vaccines, and better irrigation and nutrition. Life expectancy increased and the global population went up to 1 billion people.
-
Infant Mortality Rate
Because of the Agricultural and Industrial revolutions, life expectancy increased and the global population increased dramatically. More babies also began to live past the age of 1(IMR) this also caused global population to increase dramatically. In poor countries like Mali women do not have access to birth control and as a result tend to have more children. (Higher fertility rate)

Age of the Population
If a country has a large percentage of the population in the 15-45 age groups they will have a faster growth rate because those people are usually starting families. (think Mexico) If a country has a large percentage of their population in older age groups, 50+ they will have a slow growth rate(think Japan).
-
Education
As education becomes more common, people, particularly women, are marrying later. Marrying later usually results in less children, so this also lowers the birth rate. When women do not have good access to education they tend to get married very young in order to achieve financial stability. When women get married younger it tends to result in higher fertility rates.
-
Economy
Places with more stable economies reduces the need for more children per family. People living in these places get more education and jobs. Higher proportions of employed women then lowers the birth rate. (Mali) When women stay in school and are empowered to get awesome jobs they get married at an older age and have less children. However, when women live in poor farming communities they often have more children to support the work on the farm.
