GERMANY: by 1939 women formed 37% of the workforce 250,000 joined during war, not allowed in military, worked mainly in agriculture
gov didn't want women to work so focused on foreign workers -> by 1943 they formed 20% of the workforce
BRITAIN: 1941, women 16-60 registered for conscription to workforce, by end of war 6.5 million women employed but still payed less than men
100,000 womens royal navy
90,000 womens land army
USSR: employed greatest no of women - workforce made up of women, children, elderly
800,000 in soviet army and 3 military aircraft units ran entirely by women + they were snipers in army
