- - - - The USA was the biggest contributor to the UN budget and had power to influence their decisions

        This meant Truman could call Korea a UN sponsored intervention
        
        Under Resolution 84 the UN committed to using members armies to drive the North out of the South. 18 states provided support with the USA being by far the largest supporter
- - - - Buildin bigger and better nukes the Americans developed the first bomb in 1945 and killed over 70,000 perople atomic bombs were clearly the weapons of the future. The USSR thought the same and an arms race developed to build the biggest bomb
- - - - Us General Macarthur achieved the original UN plan. However the Americans fit not stop. China's leader Mao warned them but they continued to advance as the USA saw an opportunity to wipe out communism in Korea

        MacArthur underestimated the Chinese and 200,000 troops joined the North and launched an attack they were taught to hate America and had planes and tanks. The UN where pushed back into South Korea.
        
        conditions that were fought in were jagged mountains, ravines and cold snowstorms which much better suited the Chinese
        
        April 1951 MacArthur is sacked
        
        Truman and MacArthur had fallen out as the General wanted to invade China and use nukes however Truman felt the goal had been acheived. Truman returned to the policy of containment, accepting he could not drive communists out of North Korea
        
        July 1951peace talks begin
        
        the fighting reached stalemate around the 38th parallel peace talks began but fighting continued for 2 more years
