She began her acting career at age 6, appearing in commercials and small roles in television series.

She reprized her role as Sam in the spin-off series "Sam & Cat," which aired from 2013 to 2014.
After "Sam & Cat," McCurdy decided to stop acting to focus on her career as a writer and director.
Writing career:
In 2022, McCurdy published her first memoir, "I'm Glad My Mom Died."
The book is a raw and honest account of her childhood and the abusive relationship she had with her mother.
"I'm Glad My Mom Died" became a New York Times bestseller and received critical praise for its candor and bravery.
