Science Study Guide
-
- Producers take in Carbon Dioxide gas during photosynthesis. The carbon in the carbon dioxide is used to make food molecules - sugars and starches
- Consumers eat the producers gaining the food molecules breaking down those food molecules for energy
Autotrophs/Producers - organisms which produce their own food through photosynthesis (ex. Plants and Algae)
Heterotrophs/Consumers - organisms that obtain energy from producers or other consumers (ex. Humans, Rabits)
- As the food molecules are broken down, carbon dioxide and water are released - cellular respiration
- Producers and consumers die, decomposers (bacteria and fungi) break down their remains and return the carbon to the soil or the air
-
-
Weathering - the breaking down or dissolving of rocks and minerals on Earth's surface (carbonic acid H2CO3
-
Deposition - is when carbonate sediments, soil, or rocks are added to the land
Compaction and Cementation - carbonate sediments (remains of plants) are changed into rock (ex. coal or limestone)
Decomposition - When animals and plants die, decomposers(bacteria and fungus) break them down releasing carbon dioxide. Some of the decay is buried and will become fossil fuels over millions of years

○ Troposphere, Stratosphere, Mesosphere, Thermosphere, Exosphere, Hydrosphere/Cryosphere
Liquid Water - Lakes, Oceans, Seas, Rivers, Snow and Ice Water, Glaciers, Ice Sheets, etc.
Albedo Effect - Light-colored surfaces return a large part of the sun rays back to the atmosphere (high albedo), Dark surfaces absorb the rays from the sun (low albedo)
