Boat Style
Brig
This is a much larger type of boat that the other two often with large amounts of sails as well as other features to the ship.
-
Sloop
Varies greatly in complexity, as well as shapes and numbers of sails so I would have to study a specific model of sloop.
Because it consists of many parts with different textures/materials I would have to separate the parts to easily texture it, or I would have to UV map it
Cardboard boat
-
May be harder to texture correctly (if I decide to do textures) as I would have to UV map the boat. However it will only require 1 material if I decide not to use textures
Is more suited to the style of small splash I anticipate the boat to make. However it may also mean I have to adjust the boats density to realistically portray the material.
Fluid Style
Realistic, realistic viscosity and particle density
This will take a lot of time to research however it will result in a realistic fluid which may be better for me as the main focus o =f my project is the fluid simulation.
Basic realistic, no viscosity, friction or bounce. Realistic density.
This is similar to the type of work I produce now and so will b ethe most time efficient type of fluid for me to make
Animated, Smooth, more viscous, less particle density
This will look more animated as the fluid won't flow as much, however this style of fluid may fit in if the rest of my scene (3D models in particular) are not realistic enough to fit into a scene with a much more realistic fluid.
Materials or Textures
Using textures. I would have to learn how to create and edit basic textures in Houdini as well as how to UV maps. this will take up a large space of time if I decide to do this but the model resembling a boat will look better.
Using materials only. i already know how to create and edit materials so I would not have to spend a large amount of time researching and practicing this. materials will work perfectly fine for everything except the model resembling a boat in the scene.
