Resource at Stake: Wildlife, Orangutans, The destruction and usage of the…
-
-
- The destruction and usage of the rainforests for people's economic reasons (losing orangutan's habitats)
- Palm oil plantations (more specifically what destroys their habitat)
-
-
- Simply (and very sadly) these animals will be gone from the Earth
- Smaller flora & fauna orangutans consume will also go unchecked with their consumer out of the equation
- We will have to acknowledge that we allowed an animal so closely related to us (genetically) to go extinct.
Note: Any animal going extinct is extremely sad & horrible, but I personally think that if we allow this to happen, it really shows how we are as a population
- Support an orangutan conservation, donate what you can! A little can go a long way.
- If you get the opportunity to travel to the two islands where orangutans remain, visit a conservancy to learn more about them, and appreciate them more (also donate to that conservancy!)
- Stop using products that contain palm oil! Read labels and if it says it contains palm oil, consider an alternative product
- Again, if you can visit these conservation areas, offer your time and volunteer
- (Like above) They are a keystone species, so the environment will drastically change once they're gone
- Educate yourself and spread the word! Make change happen by raising your voice and awareness. Make people know they can contribute to saving them, even if they live far away in the Western World
