in bench trials judges make final decision since there is no jury
possible to review verdict by higher court called appellate courts. this is called making an appeal
appellate courts
2 appellate courts, court of appeal and supreme court
cases can be brought up to the appellate court, who can make decisions that lower courts must follow
sometimes cases can be brought to the supreme court, such as Trump's indictment trial
3 judges who listen to the case, called a panel, deciding by majority vote

highest court, consists of 9 justices
decisions made by the supreme court can only be reverted by the supreme court
