What exactly is a guyot?
Guyots can be described as underwater volcanic bases as they once were seamounts that peaked above sea level, however, due to erosion and movement of tectonic plates have decreased in height and are now seen below water level. Guyots provide shelter to many different organisms and species some unidentified as many of the cnidarians. Guyots can have various peaks as they are connected or "chained" to different guyots but also can be small with one peak. Seamounts are formed by divergent plate boundaries which is due to the seafloor spreading centers. It is important to note that unlike seamounts guyots are flat-like and have tables.
