Force - Coggle Diagram
Force
-
Force can: 1. Move a stationary object 2. Change the direction of an object and 3. Change the speed of an object
-
Examples of forces: Magnetic force, weight, friction, electric force, magnetic force.
-
-
-
Friction is a force, so it is measured in newtons.
-
Friction can be reduced using lubricants e.g. grease, oil and soap.
-
Disadvantages of friction: can cause tyres to wear down, can wear down machines, can slow objects down.
-
-
Air resistance is a type of friction that slows down airplanes and cars. The bigger/taller the object, the more air resistance. This is why race cars are low to the ground and smooth shaped.
-
Water resistance causes friction between boats and the sea. The greater the area of the object, the greater the water resistance.
Upthrust is a special name for the upward push against the force of gravity e.g. a speedboat pushing upwards over waves.
When forces are balanced, things will stay the same i.e. the object won't move.
When forces are unbalanced, objects will move or change direction or speed up or slow down.
