Marketisation and privatization
Privatisation
What is it?
A process were oginizations are transferred from being owned by the state to being owned by privet companies
examples of this in the education system:
academies
free schools
Ball and youdell
2007
Idenififid
endogenous priventation
the schools are privetised from within
exogenous privatisation
the schools privetised from the outside
within the education system
the impact of marketisation policies has led to schools operating in the manner of privet companies
this can be seen as the impact of marketization policies in the 1980s and 90s
The coalition goverment
2010-2015
Education secutary Michael Gove
he was influaced by eduvcational policys oin Sweden
where local demand from pearnats, communiy groups or compoanys can lead to the establishment of "free schools"
govermnt-funned schools that are not controled by local goverment
in sweden the componys are able to make profit from the schools were as this is not permited in the uk.
in thr UK these are new academes
they have included new
faith schools
schools with diffrent educational philosophies
schools linked to bussniss
privet schools seeking to offer there pupils free tuition
Evaluating the impact of further marketisation and privetization
Impact of free schools
Many planned schools have not recruted a suffinchant amount of pupils to open.
others have proved populare and successfull
revewing the policy in Sweden has found that they have failed to rase standords overall
this has coursed an increase in social and religious segregation in society.
some groups wish to revers this policy
Academisation has proven contrivershal
mainly with teachers who associated this move with attackes on their pay, conitions and professional integrity.
school managers are offten very positive about this move.
as it provides access to more funding and provides options, espeshaly in terms of savings across scademy trusts and chains
this is not avalitble under local authority control
political conserns about the policy have focused on accountablilty
this has been brought to the front in recent times.
due to academy chains withdrawing from some schools with very little accountablilty,
causing problems for the school and perants
this is a small morgirity of the school however it does raise conserns now thzt most schools have this status.
