DNA
-
-
DNA is made of two linked strands that wind around each other to resemble a twisted ladder — a shape known as a double helix.
RNA
The present nucleotide acid present in all living cells that has structural similarities to DNA.
It is made up of nucleotides
Translation
The process by which the information in a strand of DNA is copied into a new molecule of messenger RNA (mRNA).
Nucleotide
A nucleotide is the basic building block of nucleic acids (RNA and DNA).
A nucleotide consists of a sugar molecule (either ribose in RNA or deoxyribose in DNA) attached to a phosphate group and a nitrogen-containing base.
Nitrogenous bases
Nitrogenous bases are key components of nucleotides the building blocks of genetic information like DNA and RNA.
-
Protein synthesis
Protein synthesis is the process of creating protein molecules. In biological systems, it involves amino acid synthesis, transcription, translation, and post-translational events.
-
Purines and pyrimidines
They are nitrogenous bases that make up the two different nucleotides in DNA and RNA. Purines (adenine and guanine) are two-carbon nitrogen ring bases while pyrimidines (cytosine and thymine) are one-carbon nitrogen ring bases.
