COVERINGS OF THE HEART
-
The most inner double layered , Serous Pericardium consists of
Parietal pericardium - lines the inner surface of the fibrous pericardium
Visceral Pericardium ( epicardium ) -the inner layer of the serous membrane which that covers the heart
Pericardial cavity is the space between the visceral and
parietal layers, which contains serous fluid for reducing friction between the layers
HEART ANATOMY
Valves -
Tricuspid valve - between right atrium and right ventricle , Prevents blood from moving from the right ventricle into the right atrium
Pulmonary valve - Entrance to pulmonary trunk , Prevents blood from moving from the pulmonary trunk into the right ventricle
Mitral or Bicsupid valve - between left atrium and left ventricle, Prevents blood from moving from the left ventricle into the left atrium
Aortic valve - Entrance to aorta , Prevents blood from moving from the aorta into the left ventricle
-
2 Atrias which receive blood returning to the the heart , which both have an atrioventricular (AV) valve to ensure one-way flow of
blood from atria to ventricle
Chordae tendinae are attached to papillary muscles in the inner wall of the hear, those muscles contract to prevent backflow of blood through the AV valves

BLOOD FLOW
Deoxgyeneted blood - Superior and inferior vena cava - right atrium - tricuspid valve - right ventricle - pulmonary semilunar valve - pulmonary trunk and arteries - lungs - pulmonary veins - oxygenated blood into the left atrium - bicuspid or mitral valve - left ventricle - aortic semilunar valve - aorta - to the body
ARTERIES , VEINS AND CAPILLARIES
Arteries carry blood away from the heart and are strong elastic vessels that are used for pumping high pressure blood
Capillaries are the smallest type of vessel and function is to exchange gasses , nutrients and wastes between blood and tissue fluid
Veins have a thinner wall then an artery but have similar layers , the middle layer is much thinner. The function of veins is to bring blood back toward the heart and the valves inside prevent blood backflow from wherever the blood is coming from.
FUNCTIONS OF THE BLOOD
-
Blood transports substances throughout the body, helps to
maintain homeostasis and distributes heat
Blood transports nutrients and oxygen to the body cells, and
removes metabolic wastes and carbon dioxide

-
In somebodys red blood cells, if the blood is Rh positive; if absent, the blood is Rh negative
