TISSUE
Muscle Tissue
Skeletal Muscle
organs of the
vertebrate
muscular system
the muscle cells of skeletal muscles are much longer than in the other types of muscle tissue and are often known as
muscle fibers
typically are attached by
tendons to bones
of a skeleton
Smooth Muscle
is in the stomach and intestines where it helps with
digestion and nutrient collection
found throughout the urinary system where it functions to help
rid the body of toxins
and works in
electrolyte balance
Cardiac Muscle
responsible for keeping the heart pumping blood around the body
a type of muscle tissue that forms the
heart
cardiac muscle tissue contracts and releases
involuntarily
Epithelial Tissue
Lining of Gastrointestinal tract and other hollow organs
simple comlumnar
a single layer of columnar epithelial cells which are
tall and slender
with
oval-shaped nuclei
located in the basal region, attached to the basement membrane
simple cuboidal
are found in single rows with their
spherical nuclei
in the center of the cells and are directly attached to the basal surface
cilliated columnar
are rectangular in shape and have between 200 to 300 hair-like protrusions called
cilia
simple squamous
a single thin layer of flattened cells with
irregular boundaries
Skin Surface
Basement Membrane
basement membranes separate tissues and protect them from
mechanical stress
a dense, sheet-like form of
extracellular matrix (ECM)
that underlie epithelia and endothelia, and surround muscle, fat and Schwann cells
Nerve Tissue
Spinal Cord
the long, cylindrical structure that
connects the brain and lower back
helps
carry electrical nerve signals
throughout your body.
a
bony column of vertebrae
surrounds and protects the spinal cord
it contains tissues, fluids and nerve cells
Nerves
nerve cells are also called
neurons
cables
that carry electrical impulses between your brain and the rest of your body
these impulses help you feel
sensations
and move your muscles
they also maintain certain
autonomic functions
like breathing, sweating or digesting food
Brain
organ that controls
thought, memory, emotion, touch, motor skills, vision, breathing, temperature, hunger
and every process that regulates our body
Connective Tissue
Tendon
a tendon is a
fibrous connective tissue
that attaches muscle to bone
a tendon serves to move the
bone
or structure.
Fat and other soft padding tissue
fat is commonly found under the skin of the
buttocks
,
hips, waist and abdomen
it may also be called fat tissue or
adipose tissue
it also surrounds organs, such as the
kidneys
Bone
the two principal components of this material,
collagen and calcium phosphate
, distinguish bone from such other hard tissues as chitin, enamel, and shell
rigid body tissue
consisting of cells embedded in an abundant
hard
intercellular material
