DATA/SAMPLING TYPES - Coggle Diagram
DATA/SAMPLING TYPES
CONTINUOUS
measured on a continuous scale (any value within a range), e.g. weight of a packet of sugar
QUALITATIVE
not numerical data, e.g. favourite colour
QUANTITIVE
numerical data, e.g. score on a die
-
SECONDARY
data is collected by someone else, you don't know how reliable it is, e.g. looking on wikapedia
PRIMARY
data collected by yourself, you know how reliable it is, e.g. recording times in a race
DISCRETE
can only be a specific scale (certain value), e.g. score on a die
QUOTA
like stratified sampling, but the sample size of each "layer" is the same, e.g. 10 students from each year
-
STRATIFIED (unbiased)
made of different "layers" of the population, where the sample size is proportional to the size of the "layer"
CONVENIENCE
choose the most accessible members of the population, e.g. the first 20 students that walk through the door
SYSTEMATIC
choose a member of the population at regular intervals, e.g. every 10th person
