Chapters
Chapter 1
George and Lennie are on their way to a new farm, Lennie picks up a mouse and George scolds him for killing it and always wanting to touch something soft. They stay the night in a clearing and Lennie talks about his dream to own a farm with George
Chapter 2
George and Lennie arrive at the ranch where they meet Candy and the boss, Curley tells George and Lennie to stay away from him and his wife or else he will be punished. They also meet Slim and Carlson and talk about killing candy's old dog
Chapter 3
Slim asks about why George and Lennie travel together which leads George to explain how they met and why George is protecting Lennie all the time George also opens up as to why they were forced to leave their old job. Carlson and Candy enter and Slim takes candy's dog outside to let Carlson shoot it. Curley also thinks that Slim is seeing his wife so he decides to take his anger out on Lennie because he doesnt like people taller and bigger than him. A fight insues and out of self defense Lennie snaps Curley's wrist
Chapter 4
Lennie and Candy come into Crooks' room to tell him about their dream which Crooks says is impossible.
Chapter 5
Lennie accidentaly kills a pup and Curley's wife and after which he escapes. Curley finds out and begins a hunt for Lennie
Chapter 6
Lennie has a vision of a giant rabbit and aunt clara insulting him, George appears and tells Lennie what's hapening, after Lennie turns aroung George then shoots him. After coming back George explains what partially hapenned but only Slim finds out that George shot Lennie

One of the main protagonists that is a companion to Lennie, traveling and looking after him

The second protagonist in the story, He is big strong and he is not smart, he gets looked after by George

Curley's wfie who is presented as someone who is looking to seduce other ranch worker. she suffers from gender discrimination

Context
Steinbeck
Although Steinbeck's family was rich he usually went to help on ranches and farms enjoying the Salinas valley and nature. This is a reason as to why most of his works convey messages such as darwinism, fate and ranch life
The American dream
The current time in america was hard and the main idea was the "American dream" that can be achieved with hard work and effort, this American dream is the idea that people claimed that would save them from the ongoing economical crisis
Racism
Black people were often segregated and forced to live away from white people, they were given less money as well as the hard and dirty work. There were also no rules to protect them from segregation, only laws that support discrimination
