        Step 1: Charges are caused due to friction in the clouds
        
        Step 2: Movement of charges withing the cloud due to rain drops and graupel (negative side of triboelectric series)
        
        Step 3: Accumulation of charges at the bottom of the cloud
        
        Step 4: Induced positive charge on the ground
        
        Step 5: Transfer of charges via induction due to large amount of charges accumulated, making air a conductor for a brief moment.
