AUT ASSESSMENT PRINCIPLES

TE KAUPAPA ARONUI
Te reo translation provide explicit purpose to ensure rebalance of te reo within the documents and to provide direction for the integration of
mātaurangā Māori, Te Ao Māori and appropriate Tikanga Māori
as an equal and recognisable component for the delivery of content in AUT documents, policies and practice.
WHAKAMANA
Whakamana programmes will be vital to the rebalancing, of Te Aronui and working through Te Tiriti whenua initiatives.

MIHI
: LTED staff are mainly International with approx 3 NZ Pāheka. It will be important to capture individual identity in the Pepeha. Capture the interests of staff by providing a deeper awareness of their culture, interests and academic passions as a Pepeha/profile page. PURPOSE and the value of identity for their Pepeha is clear. It will be important to understand and make the time to learn and pronounce international names and be aware of their meanings and whakapapa as well.
KARAKIA
: LTED have already embraced Karakia and have been using it prior to my arrival. I recommend understanding the purpose and intention if this is supported and encouraged. It is blessing the hui, the day the people, the purpose of the day and the intention for everything to be with Tika, Pono and Aroha. It can be provided in any form or cultural blessing and not restricted to te reo Māori..
WHAKAMANA THE PRACTICE
: The te reo translations will always only be terminology unless a Whakamana programme is provided to all staff who can gain clarity on the values for the purpose and intentions that mātaurangā Māori, Te Ao Māori and appropriate Tikanga Māori can be practised in any context. Inclusiveness.
Staff learn te reo as required to provide 2 key outcomes.
1 - Respecting te reo Māori as the language, the people and the culture e.g. correct pronunciation of staff and student names, and other related māori terms used in education. This returns respect to the user/speaker. It is the beginning to enact and support the true values of Te Tiriti and mātauranga Māori, Te Ao Māori, Tikanga Māori.
2 - Respecting all languages, all peoples and all cultures via correct pronunciation is the beginning to enacting Te Tiriti, Te Aronui and provides opportunities for Māori to model the values that mātauranga Māori, Te Ao Māori Tikanga Māori can bring to education and into all peoples, all cultures personal lives. The kaupapa is not exclusive to 9-5 business hours
AUT values is a 24/7 enactment.
WAIATA
: LTED love waiata. This needs to be encouraged as it is very bonding. Learning Valance and Jason's Taku Manu Tawhiowhio is AUT's waiata. I encourage learning this as it is a powerful waiata and has a strong whakapapa. However, it will also be important to consider International waiata. We ALL learn everything together.
Explicit
needs care because it can become threatening to
non-Māori
. Inclusive has stronger value.
TIRITI
: Framework that allows Māori a voice (Tino Rangatiratanga & Kawanatanga), provides opportunity NEW rebalance, direction and greater purpose towards equality. This then becomes a
framework for all cultures Māori, Pacific, Pākeha, Internationals.
In the right context it unifies all cultures within the framework.
