5 Names of Allah and their Implications
Al-Jabbar
The Compeller
Allah's Will cannot be fought. He implements His decree with no opposition
He is Al-Jabbar, the Divine that compels each and everything to Himself will but is never Himself compelled to anything.
The Mender
Allah (SWT) heals and mends the hearts of people through many ways
Al-Azeez
The Almighty
Strength / power
The whole universe is subject to Allah's Izza
If one of us had the strength of all the creatures combined, then that strong individual’s strength is replicated in all the living bodies, then you combine all of those bodies’ strengths, that strength is less than a mosquito in comparison to an angel who is the bearer of the Throne of Allah (SWT)
If that is the might of one angel, what about the Creator of that Angel, Allah (SWT)?
Indomitable/Unassailable
No one can overpower the One with ‘Izza
Honorable
Rarity
Might is rare
When you are looking for it, you are looking for the rare might and honor unique to Allah (SWT).
Rare power
Connection: The Unassailable, Al-Azeez, is the only One who can compel anything and everything, subjecting the universe to His Will.
Al-Qahhar
The Subduer
His strength in its capacity to subdue the power of others
Vanquishes and overwhelms the will of those He wishes
Has to do with His Might and power, much like Al-Azeez and Al-Jabbar
Al-Qahhar adds the additional meaning that He subdues against someone else’s will
Irresistible power
Presides over His creation
His power cannot be resisted
He decides when you die and when you live
He sends guardian angels to keep you alive
He sends angel of death to put you to death
Allah destined us all to death so that we will be sure that we are nothing like Him. We are not anything like Al-Qahhar, we can never subdue death.
Connection: The One with the most strength and power has the ability to overpower and subdue the will of anything.
Connection: His endless strength is manifested eternally; it never goes away.
Al-Hayy
The Ever-Living
Allah's Perfection is Ever-Living
Everything about Him and His Eternity is perfect, unlike anything else.
His life is completely incomparable to our life. Everything about His life is perfect.
The Source of life
It began from Him, and so He is the Source of all life
He is the Grantor of forever
He never leaves, He is always present
Connection: Everything depends on the One source of life, Allah (SWT).
Al-Samad
The Sustainer
Samada means lasting power, the power to outlast and endure.
When something is solid, it’s dependable. For the soldier, he is dependable, he is not always in the need to be filled with water. He is a solid, dependable soldier. These things outlast because they have no deficiencies, they are not superficial.
Allah (SWT) is the Most Constant, the Most Enduring, the Most Everlasting, the Most Dependable, because He is the Most Independent of anything
He does not need to be cared for, and resourced. There is nothing incomplete about Him. There is no void in any element of His perfection
People depend on those who are superior to them; every second of our lives is dependent on Allah (SWT)
This is where the translation of the Sustainer comes from. We depend on Him to sustain us at all times.
A soldier who can outlast others in terms of his need for water
When an object is samad, it is solid and not hollow
The one who is depended on
Connection: You must perform sumud on the One who is depended on in order for him to mend you and care for you.
Putting people through consecutive tests that make them stronger in the end
Removing the hardships
Telling us about the rewards
Allah (SWT) has given us forgetfulness and distracts us, causing us to heal over time
Distracting us
Physically healing us
Our faith in His plan and Him being in charge
Mends us through our faith
