Biblical Hermeneutics
A look at hermeeutics
Hermeneutics includes both exegesis ( discovering what the text meant ) and contexualization. ( determining how the text applies today). Osborne, Hermeneutical Spiral, 5-7).
We are interested in discovering the A/author’s intended meaning in a biblical text written to an ancient audience.
Hermeneutics is both a science and an art
Hermeneutics follows a series of principles and guidelines for interpreting
a biblical text (cf. Biblical Hermeneutics, LBC, 2009).
Hermeneutical principles are applied by subjective interpreters.
Consider the general context
Historical - Where does this take place in time?
Literary - What kind of literature is this (historical narrative, poetry, parables, epistles, prophesy)?
