Boys
Groups
6 - 10 year olds were in the LIttle Fellow
10 - 14 year olds were in the German Young People
14 to 18 year olds were in the HITLER YOUTH
Political training
Members had to swear an oath of loyalty to the Fruher
They had to report anyone shit talking the Nazis
Had to attend residential courses about Nazi ideas
Physical training

Members were taught useful skills such as map-reading and signalling
By 1938, 1.2 million boys were being trained in small-arm shooting
There were different groups in the Hitler groups for different military sections
Character training
Activities stressed strength, loyalty and conradship
They had to be able to endure lots of pain and be tricky, so they were plunged into ice-cold water, lengthy exercises in wintry weather or had harsh punishments.
All of this was done to create strong men who obeyed all orders from Hitler
Girls
Groups
10-14 year olds belonged to Young Maidens
14-21 year olds were in the BDM or League of German Maidens
Activities
Had rallies and oaths of allegiances like the boys
Had physical and character building activities such as camping and marching
Training
Trained to cook, iron, make beds, sew and prepare to be a housewife
Taught the importance of 'racial hygiene; and only marrying pure Aryan race (blonde hair and blue eyes)
School
Curriculum
New subjects were added, such as 'Race Studies', to teach kids how the Aryan race was superior to Jews and how to classify racial groups.
Subjects were changed to fit the future Nazi society
Time in PE was doubled and took up 1/6 of lessons
The curriculum was different for boys and girls. Boys learnt skills for army, and girls learn skills for motherhood.
Pupils came to the school hall to listen to significant speeches on the radio about Hitler, and textbooks were approved by the Nazis and changed history about how the TOV was a stab in the back. - Mein Kampf was a compulsory school text
Education
Boys and girls went to separate schools
In 1934, BERNHARD RUST became Education Minister, who saw schools as a way of controlling the views of young Germans
Teachers
Nazis passed a law in April 1933 to sack any head/teachers who disapproved of them.
The Nazis Teachers League ran political education courses for teachers surrounding the Nazi beliefs, and by 1939, over 200,000 teachers attended this course
Taught students the Nazi salute
Started and ended class with saying 'Heil Hitler'
Nazi posters and flags decorated classrooms
All teachers had to swear an oath of loyalty
to Hitler and had to join the Nazi's Teachers Leaugue.
Efficiency
Some youngsters were excited and commited
Some didn't enjoy being forced into doing activities
Some adults didn't like the Nazi state, and they said loyalty should lie with the family, not the state
