Anatomical Features
What is the difference between a gyrus and a sulcus?
Be sure you can define the ventral/anterior vs dorsal/posterior surfaces of the cortex vs the brainstem. Why are they different?
Be able to label the lobes of each cerebral hemisphere and give a general function for each.
Temporal
Frontal
Parietal
Occipital
Limbic
Insula
Be able to describe the position of the central sulcus, the lateral sulcus, the parieto-occipital sulcus and cingulate sulcus.
Be able to describe the position of the central sulcus, the lateral sulcus, the parieto-occipital sulcus and cingulate sulcus.
Where is the primary motor cortex? What does it contain and what is its function? Where are different body regions represented on this motor cortex? What other gyri are found in the frontal lobe?
Where is the primary sensory cortex? What does it receive and what is its function? Where are different body regions represented on this motor cortex? What other gyri are found in the parietal lobe?
Where is the primary auditory cortex? What is its function? What other gyri are found in the Temporal lobe?
Where is the primary visual cortex? What is its function?
What makes up the limbic lobe? What is its function?
Describe the anatomy of the corpus callosum. What is its function?
What does the brainstem connect? What are the parts of the brainstem? With what region are the cerebral peduncles associated? With what region are the superior and inferior colliculi associated? With what region is the middle cerebellar peduncle associated? With what region are the pyramids and olives associated? With what region are the fasciculi cuneatus and gracilis associated?
Diencephalon
Outline the components and be able to label parts of the diencephalon, including thalamus, pineal, hypothalamus.
